The differences between rattan and wicker and furniture
What exactly is rattan a material? And what is the difference between rattan and wicker? Rattan is a hard, sturdy vine that grows in tropical rain forests. Rattan is very sturdy and solid. This makes rattan perfect for making furniture. This is in contrast to reed. Cane is a water plant and is not strong enough to make a chair, for example. Wicker chairs are actually not made of wicker at all, but often of rattan. So what is the difference between rattan and bamboo? Bamboo is hollow inside and therefore more fragile. Rattan, on the other hand, is solid and a lot more flexible. Therefore, rattan is much more suitable for making furniture than bamboo or wicker.

All our vintage rattan furniture is handcrafted in Indonesia. The wood used is Mindi wood: sustainably sourced wood from Indonesian plantations.
